Stone trolls

In the summer of 2014 I started planning stone trolls and then I built stone trolls every summer until the summer of 2024. It actually started with me needing a little break from family life when the children were small. Gluing the stone roll together was a reason to get away from everything and have a quiet moment for myself. Read more about the creation process.

If I counted correctly and remembered to photograph them all, I have made a total of 74 trolls. Of those, I have given 4 as gifts to various acquaintances (unfortunately one troll broke due to rough play). All the given away stone trolls are said to still live in cottages on Emäsalo.

Read about the stone trolls in Borgåbladet (in Swedish)! (the article was originally published in 2023 when the newspaper was called Östnyland, which Borgåbladet was called during the years 2015-2024) Paywall, but if you have, for example, an HBL account, you will see the entire article. The article is published in the actual paper newspaper on 8.12.2023 (screenshot from PDF) and on the web on 12.12.2023.

In the summer of 2024, I had an exhibition in the village shop on Emäsalo. For 3 months, people in the shop’s café could look at all the stone sculptures.
